എഴുപതുകളില്‍ ഒന്നും തന്നെ സംഭവിച്ചിട്ടില്ല - റോസി തമ്പി
'എഴുപതുകള്‍ വിളിച്ചപ്പോള്‍' എന്ന സിവിക് ചന്ദ്രന്റെ പുസ്തകത്തെ പറ്റി തൃശൂര്‍ സാഹിത്യ അകാദമി ഹാളില്‍ മെയ്‌ ഇരുപത്തിരണ്ടിന് നടന്ന ചര്‍ച്ചയില്‍ റോസി തമ്പി. എഴുപതുകളില്‍ എന്ത് സംഭവിച്ചു, അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ എന്തെകിലും സംഭവിച്ചോ ? എഴുപതുകളെ പറ്റി അഭിമാനിക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്കും , അതില്‍ പകുകാരാനായില്ലല്ലോ എന്ന് വിലപിക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്കും എഴുപതുകളില്‍ ഒന്നും തന്നെ സംഭവിച്ചിട്ടില്ല എന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്കും പ്രതികരിക്കാന്‍ ഒരു അവസരം. കേരളത്തില്‍ നക്സലിസം പരാജയപെടാന്‍ കാരണം എന്ത് ? കേരളത്തില്‍ ഇടതു പക്ഷകാരന് മാത്രമെ ബുദ്ധിജീവി ആകാനാവു. ഇടതു പക്ഷമാല്ലത്തത് എല്ലാം മോശമാണോ? കെ വേണു, സിവിക് ചന്ദ്രന്‍, അശോകന്‍ ചെരുവില്‍, ഖദീജ മുംതാസ്‌, അരവിന്ദാക്ഷന്‍ എന്നിവര്‍ പങ്കെടുത്ത വേദിയില്‍ റോസി തമ്പിയുടെ വാകുകളിലേക്ക്.(സഹജീവനത്തിനുവേണ്ടി ചാക്കോ )

Equality for women remains a far cry in society

As yet another International Women’s Day goes by, how far has Kerala walked the path of social, economic and political justice for women? What glass ceilings are women yet to shatter in ‘God’s Own Country?’ Our readers respond:
We had sent a response which appeared in actual form in some editions of The Hindu and edited form in some others.
Not empowered
It is widely believed that Kerala’s remarkable performance in the social sector has resulted in a high level of women empowerment.
However, the reality is that, as a result of education, women were able to obtain jobs and hence earn income, but their control over the income they earn, their status in society as individuals, their role in decision-making even at the household level are weak.
Women in Kerala, in spite of being educated, are not empowered, if empowerment is defined as the ability to seek and use power appropriately, or respond reasonably to it either by themselves or as it is directed toward them by others.
Enhanced work participation ratio has certainly empowered women economically, but has not culminated in social empowerment.
A mention should also be made of the educational institutions in Kerala that are run exclusively for women.
The philosophy behind a women’s educational institution is that in an all-women environment, they can nurture their talents better without any interference from the male counterparts.
However, it is high time we posed the question how many of these colleges and schools contribute to social empowerment of women.
In most of such institutions, students are put under controlled environment where fear is the prominent element.
Such an environment is not conducive to the holistic development of the individual, where she learns the virtues of freedom that is coupled with responsibility.
Most of such institutions aim at confining women to the traditional gender roles society demands, rather than helping them to rediscover their wings which will liberate them to heights where there are no glass ceilings.
ഫുര്തെര്‍, Neither the general education provided is capable of making men think that the self of a woman is as respectable as that of his nor the education given to women (general education or women’s education) competent to enhance women’s self esteem.
